English Word Problems
Bill has three apples and Sharon has two apples. Sharon gives one apple to Bill.
Question: How many apples does Bill have now?
Answer: Four apples (Three apples plus one apple equals four apples) or,
3 + 1 = 4
Question: How many apples does Sharon have now?
Answer: One apple (Two apples minus one apple equals one apple) or,
2 – 1 = 1
There are fourty sweets in a box for class four children. There are twenty children in the class.
Question: How many sweets will each child receive?
Answer: Two sweets each (Fourty divided by twenty equals two) or,
40 ÷ 20 = 2
